FERNDALE, Mich. – Police in Michigan say a first date went from bad to worse when a Detroit man skipped out on the restaurant bill, then stole his date’s car.

Police say 23-year-old Terrance Dejuan McCoy had dinner with a woman April 24 at Buffalo Wild Wings in the Detroit suburb of Ferndale. The woman says the two met a week earlier at a Detroit casino and she knew McCoy only as “Chris.”

The woman told police that McCoy said he left his wallet in her car and asked for keys. He then sped away in the 2000 Chevrolet Impala.

The Daily Tribune of Royal Oak reports that police identified McCoy by a photo he’d sent to the woman’s cell phone, and his phone number.

McCoy is charged with unlawfully taking the car, a five-year felony. He waived a preliminary exam and was bound over for trial Thursday.

FORT PIERCE, Fla. – What would you do for a Klondike bar? Authorities said a man shoved an ice cream bar down his pants and then offered a Texaco station store owner $69 not to turn him in for shoplifting. The owner told police that a 65-year-old man tried to sneak the Klondike bar, along with packages of Ramen noodles and Famous Amos cookies, out of the store without paying Tuesday night.

When the store owner confronted the man as he tried the leave the store, the owner reported that the man pulled the flattened ice cream snack out of his back pocket and offered the owner $69 for it.

The owner called police, and the man was charged with retail theft and violation of probation charges. He was being held on $500 bail.

Criminal Charges to be Filed in Case of Balloon Boy

by admin | November 20, 2011 | In Dumb Criminal | Comments Off

420-balloon-boy-presserThe bizarre flight of a home-made helium balloon, thought to have a 6-year-old boy aboard, was a hoax and publicity stunt, a Colorado sheriff said on Sunday.

“It has been determined that this is a hoax, that it was a publicity stunt and we believe we have evidence at this point to indicate that this was a publicity stunt in hopes to better market themselves for a reality show,” Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden told reporters at a press conference.

He said the family faced several charges.

The sight of the flyaway balloon on live television gripped U.S. viewers for more than two hours on Thursday as the silver flying saucer-shaped contraption raced across the Colorado sky, tracked by U.S. National Guard helicopters before the boy, Falcon Heene, was found alive and well in his attic.

Questions were raised after Falcon was asked during an interview on CNN why he had stayed in hiding so long when family members and other searchers were desperately calling his name.

He responded: “You guys (his parents) said that, um, we did this for a show.”

Alderden said the parents, Richard and Mayumi Heene, could face charges of conspiracy, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, filing a false report with authorities and with attempting to influence a public servant.

Alderden had previously said the couple would face only misdemeanor charges in the incident.

The Heene family has appeared on the ABC television reality show “Wife Swap” in which families swap mothers to deal with family problems.

Richard Heene has emphatically denied that the incident was a hoax and Alderden initially said that he believed him, largely dismissing skepticism in the media.
