TRENTON, N.J. – Police say a 19-year-old who tried to rob a liquor store sat down and cried after 76-year-old owner locked him in the store. The man was accused of trying to rob Sykes Liquor Store in Trenton Monday night. Police said the owner, who was behind the counter, triggered the lock after the man grabbed a bottle of Hennessy cognac and bolted for the door.

The man then allegedly pulled out a handgun and demanded to be released. But the owner said he saw that the gun was a fake, refused to unlock the door and called police.

Police said the suspect threw away the gun, slumped to the floor and was crying when officers arrived to arrest him.

A Vallejo teen gave birth Friday after she allegedly burglarized a North Vallejo home.

At about 10:30 a.m., a patrolling officer noticed a blue Mercedes parked on Borges Lane and recognized it as a vehicle associated with reported burglaries in the Vallejo area, police said.

As the officer pulled up alongside the vehicle, he saw a pregnant Shanae Harston, 19, of Vallejo exit a home on the 100 block of Agnes Court. There was also a 16-year-old female inside the car, police said.

The officer recovered stolen property from Harston, who then began having contractions and had to be taken to the hospital, where she gave birth, police said.

The 16-year-old juvenile was arrested and booked into juvenile hall, but Harston was released pending prosecution due to her condition, police said.

Officers are continuing to investigate whether the teenagers had anything to do with other burglaries in the area, police said.

An Ohio man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison over allegations he joined al-Qaida and helped plot terrorist bombings in the U.S. and overseas.

American-born Christopher Paul appeared Thursday in federal court in Columbus, where he pleaded guilty in June to one count of conspiracy to use a weapon of mass destruction in terrorist attacks.

The 44-year-old Paul grew up in the Columbus suburb of Worthington and spent a year at Ohio State as an engineering major.

The Justice Department accused Paul and two other men of discussing terrorist attacks during an August 2002 meeting at a suburban coffee shop. The other two also pleaded guilty: Nuradin Abdi in 2007 in connection with an alleged plot to blow up an Ohio shopping mall, and Iyman Faris in 2003 in connection with an alleged plot to destroy the Brooklyn Bridge.

The government won’t say whether the case is closed or if any of the attacks were carried out.
